What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a highly effective approach that uses hypnosis to create positive and beneficial change in a safe and comfortable way. By enabling you to recognise and access your own inner resources it helps you uncover unconscious blocks, resolve problems and create desired changes in attitudes, habits and behaviour. It also offers an opportunity for you to relax deeply and enjoy a sense of inner peace and calm.

Results gained through hypnotherapy are wide ranging and include greater confidence, reduced stress, improved work and sports performance, overcoming phobias, stopping unwanted habits, increased feelings of well being and generally enhancing how clients perceive themselves and their abilities.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis, or trance, is a naturally occurring state that can happen many times a day where both your mind and body become relaxed. You may remember times in the past when you’ve been in a trance, perhaps when you were daydreaming, or glued to the TV or just completely absorbed in whatever you were doing. In this relaxed state, and with the help of a hypnotherapist, you can explore and build upon your inner resources, be more open to positive and beneficial suggestions and bring about the changes you desire quickly and easily.

What is Ericksonian Hypnotherapy?

Ericksonian hypnotherapy is the approach I prefer to use. It is less authoritative, more personalised and designed to match your unique needs, experiences and interests. It is non intrusive, respectful and gentle and allows you to experience hypnosis in ways that fit and work best for you.

What can I expect?

Initial session
As each client is unique, the approach will be personalised to suit you. For this reason we will begin with a full consultation to understand more about you, your circumstances and what you want to achieve from the hypnotherapy. This will help me to personalise the approach in a way that works best for you. Very often, the simple process of answering these questions can also begin to bring about positive change. We will answer any questions you might have, give you chance to experience a short taster and help you feel more comfortable and relaxed.

Subsequent Sessions
The number of sessions required depends on the condition or symptom you wish to address as well as your individual circumstances. Some people with a problem such as nail biting, or a desire to stop smoking, can be successfully treated in one session. For other people, or other issues, it can take longer. Together we will monitor and evaluate your progress and agree what is needed.

During the hypnotherapy you will always remain fully in control. All hypnosis is really self hypnosis and no one can be hypnotised against their will. Clients usually find it a relaxing and comfortable experience and leave feeling fully awake and refreshed.

Between Sessions
There may be some simple assignments or practices for you to participate in between sessions to help integrate and reinforce the positive changes you wish to make.

Medical Details
If you are being treated by a medical practitioner, you may be asked to contact your GP for their permission to treat you. This is to ensure that the hypnotherapy does not interfere with any medication you might be taking currently.
